New Case Study – Thermal Management for Arkansas Children’s Hospital
The canopy entrance of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital – lit with 100W mercury vapor downlights – was causing quite a bit of trouble for the hospital staff and its patients. Giving off a greenish hue, it was home to nesting birds and insects and required constant attention due to frequent outages. The hospital’s lighting is a significant component of its energy use and the high operational and maintenance expenses caused by the dimming mercury vapor lights were eating into the annual budget. Arkansas Children’s Hospital was in dire need of an affordable, durable and energy efficient solution to their lighting crisis. They decided to work with lighting specialists at LumenOptix to retrofit their lighting for LED downlights. In turn, LumenOptix chose the Nuventix SynJet® for its thermal management requirements.
LumenOptix utilized the Nuventix SynJet ZFlow 100 and Downlight LED Cooler 40W to achieve the desired energy efficiency with the maximum quality. These models were specifically developed for downlight LED cooling and due to the frictionless design the SynJet technology creates less heat and requires less energy than standard cooling solutions. With the new LumenOptix LED retrofit using SynJet cooling solutions, the Arkansas Children’s Hospital saw immediate improvement. The muted green tint was replaced with a vibrant, bright white light. The new fixtures and reflectors eliminated bird and insect access. Light output was increased by well over 50% while annual energy savings reached an amazing 75%.
