Company Profile: Overview

A Radical New Approach to Active Thermal Management

Nuventix is an active thermal management solutions company located in Austin, Texas. The Nuventix-developed SynJet® module is a newly patented synthetic jet cooling technology that utilizes turbulent pulses of air generated from an electromagnetic actuator. Based on early success with computer cooling, Nuventix's innovative approach to LED cooling is propelling that market forward two years ahead of analyst estimates - truly affecting the industry and allowing general illumination designs to harvest the efficiencies of the LED. Synthetic jet technology using Nuventix's patented methods means revolutionary thermal solutions that are applicable to a wide variety of industries, including consumer electronics, telecommunications, automotive and industrial. Businesses and consumers are demanding more computing power and higher LED lumen output packaged into smaller spaces. Nuventix customers will have more flexibility in product design, thus increasing their value and differentiation in the marketplace.

History

Active thermal management: more efficient computer chip cooling

Nuventix was founded by Professor Ari Glezer and researchers Dr. Sam Heffington and Dr. Raghav Mahalingam at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with the simple goal of removing more heat with less air. Much of the development was supported by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the U.S. Navy, and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The chip cooling concept was incubated by VentureLabopens in a new window, Georgia Tech's center for technology commercialization. The result is a radically new approach to thermal management that is not only more thermally effective, but is quieter, more flexible and more energy efficient than fans.

Patents

Building a patent portfolio for active thermal management methods

Nuventix's current portfolio contains 8 issued patents and 27 patent filings. In addition, there are 9 international patent filings in Japan, China, Australia, Netherlands, Germany and the United Kingdom.

Venture Funding

Continued confidence yields strong financial and funding outcomes

In the fall of 2005, Nuventix raised its Series A funding from Centerpoint Ventures, InterWest Partners, and Rho Ventures and relocated the company's headquarters to Austin, Texas. Those same investors supported an additional round for Series B funding in November of 2007. Additional investors, ATV and Braemer, supplemented a Series C round of funding in April of 2008.
